Winchester made theirs by necking down .308 cases to 6mm and chambered its Model 70 and Model 88 lever action rifles for the new cartridge. Apr 23, 2017 · The .222 Remington was a popular target cartridge from its introduction until the mid-1970s and still enjoys a reputation for inherent accuracy. It remains a popular vermin or “varmint” cartridge at short and medium ranges with preferred bullet weights of 40-55 grains and muzzle velocities from 3000-3500 fps. Apr 16, 2008 · 6mm Remington twist rate is 1 in 9, 244 Remington twist rate is 1 in 12. The 1 in 12 twist will not stabilize long 100 grain bullets while the 1 in 9 twist will. When the the caliber .224 Remington's name was changed to 6mm Remington, the twist rate was changed.
Remington .244 rifles made from 1958 on can stabilize all 6mm bullets, while those made in 1955 through 1957 are limited to loads using spitzer bullets not heavier than 90 grains for best accuracy. Factory loads in 6mm call for an 80 grain bullet at 3,470 fps, and a 100 grain bullet at 3,100 fps. In more recent years, Norma has registered the longer-throat version of the cartridge as the 6mm BR Norma. The original Remington short throat, designed for bench rest competition and varmint shooting, limits overall cartridge length with nominal bullet contours of the typical weight range to 2.200". Features I reciently built a 6mm and want to know what powder would be best suited to shoot the 107 + bullets with. I have tried the RE-22 with good results, but it heats up the barrel really fast (5 rounds). I am now using the Retumbo Powder, it doesn't heat up the barrel quite as fast, but accuracy isn't what I expected either.
Weatherby, for the first time in decades, is unleashing a new cartridge—and it is a speed-demon of a six-five. These factors make the 6mm Creedmoor very forgiving of range and wind estimation errors while at the same ...
I just contacted Remington with the same question and was told to go with 100 and 105 grain bullets for this gun. I tried a box of the Winchester 100 gr. Power Points and the best I could come up with was a group of 1" @ 100 yds (letting the barrel cool 3 minutes in between shots) with another shooter on the trigger. Remington’s Polymer Stock gives the shooter a comfortable interface and reduces the weight of an already heavy rifle. The stock comes with two sling swivels to mount both a sling and a bipod . With a long 26″ barrel and a hefty weight of 8.5 lbs (without a scope), the rifle was not built for maneuverability. When first introduced, barrels for the .244 were made with a 1:12" twist, because Remington anticipated that their new cartridge would be used primarily for varmint shooting. The 1 in 12 inch twist is ideal for best accuracy with varmint weight bullets (70-85 grains) in a high velocity .24 (6mm) caliber rifle.
